Happy Dragon Year to everyone and may the new year bring health & happiness to all. All was well and Mom bathed Lauryn early in the morning too before Mom's bro's family came over. Lauryn was happily barking at everyone including the lil' niece. Unfortunately, Lauryn had a fit occurance on 24012012 at 0020 hours. She had never had fits before in the past 10 years. It was a really traumatic experience for Mom & Dad... the fit lasted about a lil' more than 5 minutes and she took about 10 minutes to recover from it. She couldn't stand initially, head was also falling backwards. Although she was already up and running normally as though nothing happened (dogs actually don't know that they're going through a fit), Mom thought it'd be good to still go to a vet.

When they reached the vet, Lauryn was already very alert & active. Mom googled and thought it could be a neurological problem and asked the vet about it. The vet checked her ears, eyes, coordination movements etc and mentioned that it could be possible as sometimes with age, blood flow to the brain would not be as smooth. He looked at her bloodwork results from Oct 2011 & thought all was well so Mom & Dad were told to monitor her. If it happens again within 2 weeks then some other tests would be needed (ie a brain scan). Otherwise if it happens in like once a month or a year... just calmly let her go through the fit. No meds were given since it's the first time. He did insist that she's already very old and things like that are bound to happen. But we really don't think she's old at all seeing how she behaves everyday and ppl guessin' her being only half her age.

Lauryn's all well now and we pray it'll never happen again... or even if it does... that it's nothing major. One of Mom's friends in Facebook mentioned whether it could be vestibular syndrome.

On a happier note, on 25012012, a day after Lauryn's incident, Mom brought us out at midnight for some chilling out! We hope all of you had a great CNY! Gong Hei Fat Choy!

Sister Cat's Spay (and her 3 stillborns)

Sister cat was scheduled to have her abortion + spay on 18012012 and Mom brought her back on 08012012 since she was afraid that she can't find her before the appointment date.

Sadly... Mom and Dad came home to a VERY bloody sight on the night of 13012011 (it was also Friday the 13th!). Dried blood was all over the floor and they found a stillborn with sister Cat layin' near it. She's always very gd natured but turned aggressive when her stillborn was cleared away.

The next night, they found two more stillborns hidden away from sight behind some cupboards which were missed the night before. Sister Cat's temperament had already went back to normal by then.

Sigh... what a traumatized incident it was for both Sister Cat and Mom & Dad... Sister Cat must have felt so confused and sad at the same time. Mom said she almost fainted from the sight of all the blood and the stillborns that Dad had to do all the cleaning up. Then Mom also lost her appetite for awhile because she can't get the bloody raw image off her mind... and it also took her alota courage to snap a pix of it... but for what...? I dunno... I think Mom just likes to take pix of both good and bad stuff so that one day she'll be able to look through them all...

Mom googled & read that cats can have several mates. Sometimes, after they give birth to stillborns, they can still give birth to a bunch of healthy kittens a couple of days or so later. But that didn't happen to Sister Cat... 3 stillborns and that was it. She also had a swollen uterus during her spay due to her miscarriage... so she was released a day later.

Ginger Cat's Abortion And Spay

Happy New Year to all our readers! We hope 2012 will be a kinder year for all animals & may you fulfill all your new year resolutions as well.

This will also be our 301th post on the first day of 2012 since our 1st post in March 2007!

On New Year's Day this mornin', our humans released a ginger cat after her abortion and spay. They had booked a stray sterilization slot (on 30122011) with the vet's some time ago and the night before, they found her with a bulgin' stomach. So they chose her for this session and brought her home.

Sterilization cost for a female stray cat is S$30 and the abortion cost was an extra S$10 (booked under CWS). Coincidentally the lady after Mom at the vet's had a pregnant stray cat with her too! She opted for an abortion + sterilization as well. It's sad, but it's for the better as we can't keep track on all the kittens & get them all sterilized when they're older as some of them may move on to other territories of their own or end up being too elusive for us. This is the 2nd time Mom's aborted & spayed a stray animal... the 1st one was Gigi the Jack Russell Terrier and luckily for her, she's found a good forever home.

Mom kept ginger kitty for a couple of days before releasin' her. She's ok & recovered pretty fast overall but they suspect that she may be havin' some underlyin' health issues because of her excessive drinkin' of water.

Anyways here's the set of pictures of the beautiful her. She has a somewhat flatter face compared to the typical Domestic Short Hair (DSH) cats... very tame & affectionate as well. Before bringin' her back, Mom sat down to play with her a lil' & guess what! She walked right in front of the crate & nudged at the door. Mom opened it & she walked right into it settlin' down comfortably. After her surgeries, she ate & again, went back right into the crate on her own to rest.

Organic (Extra) Virgin Raw Coconut Oil & Some Info. about Fish Oil VS Organic Plant-Based Oils

We've been havin' Organic (Extra) Virgin Coconut Oil a teaspoon each daily for quite some time now but haven't blogged about it. It's a guarantee by the way that ALL dogs & cats will love it!

Do make sure to get (Extra) Virgin Coconut Oil or Raw and Unrefined, Cold/Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil and NOT just coconut oil as the latter has been processed & refined unlike the former. Coconut oil has been called the healthiest dietary oil on earth & scientific research has discovered the many miraculous healing of coconut oil both internally & externally for both animals & humans alike. This site provides MANY info. about Virgin Coconut Oil. Here as well, and for dogs.

Here are some facts about it from here:

There is no industry standard definition for "Virgin Coconut Oil" as there is in the olive oil industry for "Virgin" and "Extra Virgin" olive oil. Today, there are many coconut oils on the market that are labeled as "Virgin Coconut Oil.

Virgin Coconut Oil can only be achieved by using fresh coconut meat or what is called non-copra. Chemicals and high heating are not used in further refining, since the natural, pure coconut oil is very stable with a shelf life of several years. There are currently two main processes of manufacturing Virgin Coconut Oil:

1. Quick drying of fresh coconut meat which is then used to press out the oil. Using this method, the coconut meat is quick dried, and the oil is then pressed out via mechanical means. This is the most common type of "Virgin" or "Extra Virgin" (see below) coconut oil sold in the market today that you will find in stores. It is mass-produced.

Many readers of our blog as well as Mom's customers have enquired to buy Chia Seeds from her. The reason as to why Mom doesn't sell Chia Seeds is because she does not want anyone to think that she's promotin' Chia Seeds to animals for profit. Chia Seed is available in many (if not all) organic shops & are easily accessible to the public.

With our humans being (high-raw) vegans themselves (yes, they're eatin' more Raw LIVING foods instead of COOKED DEAD foods), they believe in the sun & energy of this planet givin' life to plants, & from plants to a livin' being's body. Hence, both animals & humans WILL benefit from (organic) plant-based foods. The Sun & earth's energy give life to plants, plants give life to plant-eatin' (herbivorous) animals (AND HUMANS who're fruigivorous by the way!), & in turn to other (carnivorous) animals. Usin' simple logic & reasonin', even carnivores will benefit from plant-based foods.

In this previous blog-post, Mom mentioned that she'll be blog a lil' more abt fish oils VS organic plant-based oils. And since this is a post about oil, she'll just do it here and now.

Here's a story about a dog being saved from death via the natural & holistic way. Like Mom, Shasta's human DOES NOT believe in feedin' her fish oils & would rather replace them with organic plant-oils like Chia Seeds, Virgin Coconut Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Hempseed, Flax Oil etc. Read on below (in the website) to see how much plant-based supplements/oil Shasta human gives her.

Scroll down & you'll read this part by Shasta's human, ''Raw fish. I used to give Shasta a whole raw fish (with bones). She loved it and ate the head, tail, bones and all. She liked especially the mackarel. Unfortunately, I've had to stop giving her fish due to mercury contamination. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued advise on the hazard posed by mercury in fish bought from stores and restaurants, which includes ocean and coastal fish as well as other types of commercial fish. My entire family has stopped eating fish.

WHY?? For ONE very simple reason - fishes & fish oil contain MERCURY & other deadly substances that not only will do harm to humans esp. pregnant women, but also to companion animals like us. Many people will argue that dogs need fish oils blabla bla... but seriously, wolves/wild dogs in nature only hunt for fishes when they've no choice & what are the chances of them even being able to catch fishes daily?! MORE importantly, even IF a dog eats fishes in the wild DAILY, it is only because of one purpose - survival. For us, Mom believes that we should not only survive, but THRIVE as well. And for that, humans will have to simply use their brains more to think what is better for us in terms of health in the long run. Whether fish oil is more digestible for us or organic plant-based oils, its not for anyone to say because there is VERY lil' concrete studies done to support this at all. What's more, we've been off any forms of fish or fish oil for more than a year now & our skin & coat are even better than before, growin' faster, thicker & shinier.

Even IF science were to one day prove that dogs/cats do not benefit one bit from organic plant-based oils as compared to fish oils, give us a choice of the many benefits of fish oils ALONG with DEADLY mercury poisoning as compared to no benefits from organic plant-based oils BUT completely SAFE WITHOUT any mercury poisoning etc, we'd still choose the latter. It's just simply common sense.

Another thing is, for raw feeders to believe in natural raw UNPROCESSED feedin' for us, fish oil IS a processed food as compared to say Chia Seeds or Hemp Seeds whereby the oils come directly from soakin' the raw seeds. If you're thinkin' that we still need omega 3 from animals, raw eggs are very rich in omega 3 as well but the source & type of eggs are very important as well for optimum nutrients.

TAKE NOTE that Chia Seed is NOT a supplement, it is a FOOD. Compare omega 3 from fish oil & chia seed from here.

From this site, ''The Chia seed, on the other hand, has three times the amount of Omega-3 than Omega-6 in its makeup. Therefore, by consuming more Chia in your diet you will balance out the ratio of fatty-acid intake in your daily nutrition. A correct balance of Omega-6 and Omega-3 leaves you with healthier brain function and allows for normal development of the body.
While Omega-3 is available in products such as fish oil and eggs, the purity of its concentration in those non-grain forms is questionable. For example, eggs from organic chickens fed with greens rather than corn have a greater amount of Omega-3, but knowing what kind of eggs you’re buying isn’t easy when they’re already boxed in your grocery store. Meanwhile, fish oil is a processed food, a fact that diminishes its nutritional value.
By contrast, the Chia seed can be eaten unprocessed and without any chemical spray necessary, making it the most reliable form of Omega-3 we know.''

Chia seed is SAFE to eat as it is an ancient superfood used by the Aztecs. Mom calls it a survival food because in times of hardship, humans & animals alike will benefit more from eatin' Chia Seeds instead of animals.

And of couse there will be other ''studies'' (where do these dubious ''studies'' come from btw??) to slam Chia Seeds, just like how the meat & dairy industry try to slam proper scientific studies by the medical industries on the harmful effects of humans consumin' factory-farmed meats filled with antibiotics, GMOs, vaccines etc. In every industry, there will be another to put them down in order to ''save'' theirs.

But we leave it to you to decide. Our humans & us have all been eatin' chia seeds daily without fail for the past couple of years.

Lucky's a 4+ years young miniature schnauzer with a tail! He was here for boardin' from 09 Dec to 15 Dec 2011. Mom says he's really cute because he kept tryin' to be a part of Mom whenever she sits down on the floor tryin' to snap a pix of him... what he'll do is he'll totally rush to Mom (& prolly hit the camera too) & stuff his big self snugly unto her lap. Mom seldom blogs about the dogs that come for boardin' but he sure is an interestin' fella!

Brother Cat's Neuter

With Mother Cat spayed already, she still has intact siblings out there... both males & females. All of them are of very similar colors & markings esp the area around their face & eyes. One of the males is too skittish to be captured while the other intact male & female are okay. So Mom had a slot booked for one of her brothers some time back, caught him last night & brought him down to the vet to be neutered this mornin', collected him at 1830 hours & released immediately.

Sigh... there's another black&white intact (male), an intact female ginger & a baby black kitty (baby of Mother Cat) as well. So it's a total of about five more intact cats there of which one brother cannot be captured. The cost is still pretty okay for Mom to handle as the sterilization slots are booked under Cat Welfare Society (CWS) & are discounted for strays. Usual price for female cats is S$85 onwards and S$65 for male cats. The rates for strays are S$31.20 for female cats & S$21.40 for males at this particular clinic... GST included. There would be reimbursement from CWS too.

Hopefully Mom will get them all spayed & neutered soon to prevent anymore litters.

A kitty cat named Patches came for boardin' from 1st Dec 2011 to 8th Dec 2011 and she looks just like our Chewy! Only smaller, wayyyy cuter & a thousand times a purrrr-er than Chewy. Pat was adopted last month from LiFeline that has many many other cats & kittens for adoption. So if you're lookin' to adopt a kitteh, here's another adoption site that you may consider adoptin' from.

Don't know why cats hiss at one another cuz that was exactly what Chewy did to scare lil' Patches all day long. Pat on the other hand was so good (& scared).

After a couple of days the hissings lessened. Pat was a see-no-touch for us pups so you could imagine my high tolerance level because I just loveeeee birds and kitties so much!

Mother Cat and her Brother

Mom ''visited'' Mommy Cat and fed her today. She's happy back at her territory and she makes sure to guard it darn well too by chasin' other cats away... includin' males that are bigger than her... one we suspect is her biological brother because of very similar color and markings.

Baby Kitty wasn't around but she did carry the food and called out for her. Mom says they'll be catchin' her brother soon to neuter him. There's abt 5 or so intact kitties there so it will take some time to sterilize them all one by one...

Mommy Kitty and Baby Kitty's Release

Mother Cat was spayed on 24112011 and thanks to Cat Welfare Society (CWS), Mom was able to spay her at a stray sterilization rate of only S$32.10 in total includin' GST. Luckily there wasn't any complications involved as well. She was one tough Mommy because she didn't look like she had gone through any surgeries at all. Ahhh... did I mention that Dad was able to bathe both Mommy and Baby Kitty too w/o any struggles at all??

Side-track a lil' more... Mommy Kitty managed to escape not once, not twice, but thrice through a window in the room that has a loose lock. Even tho' Dad used quite alota stuff to block it, she still managed to open it & went out for some strolls. And yea all three times Dad was able to get her back because she sat at the exact same spot all the time waitin' for them to go get her LOL! The first time Mom used Animal Communication to get her back but that too took abt half a day to get to her because it was rainin' dogs and cats and she was probably happily nappin' in some sheltered area... makin' Mom search for her under the heavy rain =[ . After that, she remained at the exact same spot with her other escapes. She is definitely one amazin' kitty.

The vet did an internal stitching for her and she had the mood to still eat and drink immediately when home (unlike Chewy before), not to mention cuddlin' her baby too. It's such a pity that no one wants to adopt her because she's just sooooo affectionate!

No e-collar was needed for her at all since it was an internal stitch. So Mom decided to release both of them today. This was when Mommy first brought them home on 06112011... and now here's some pix of them before they left...

Fallin' Into Drain on Binary Day

We'd like to thank all of you who's been followin' our blog... especially to some very special people who seem to hate our Mommy (& accused her of STARVING us) but yet are still followin' our blog VERY diligently. We're flattered.

11th of November 2011 (111111) was such a special date that Mom had to take a pix of us. BUT right before the pix was snapped, I saw a cute lil' squirrel & chased him. In my most frantic state state of mind & supersonic speed, I failed to notice a deep drain & fell right into it while chasin' him... worse part was I just couldn't climb out cuz it was so high. So Daddy had to come rescue me. How embarassin' that was... not to mention I was all wet (& happy too) and Mom was just glad that I didn't sustain any injuries from the fall. Well, I'm super-velvet and this fall ain't gonna get me down!

So to all our fans & erm... (Mom's) haters... this is the best pix we've (of the STARVING us) for you on 11112011.

Black-Backed Kingfisher (Ceyx Erithacus)

Last year today (10112010), Mom picked up Chewy. Today (10112011), Mom picked up a Black-Backed Kingfisher. (side-track... Happy 1 year with us Chewy!)

While outside, Dad chanced upon a tiny drenched bird on the ground durin' a downpour at about 1800 hours. So he picked him up & put him in a cardboard with newspapers to let him dry off before releasin' him.

They then guessed that he was a kingfisher via his long beak and color as they like this species of bird alot and tried to take some pix of them awhile back... but their camera lens wasn't powerful enough for a good shot of them so high up in the air.

But at about 2000 hours, they tried to release him but he just wouldn't fly at all and there were many cats around there. So they had no choice but to bring him home and inform ACRES to help this lil' bird.

Boy was I happy I thought I was gonna have a forever bird fwen! But Mom said no... birds are meant to fly free. I wasn't even allowed to see him because Mom was afraid he would die due to stress since he's most likely injured and he couldn't really open his left eye.

ACRES arrived at about 2245 hours and their vet examined him and found an injury (a bald spot) on his head and his left eye issue. So they'll incubate and access him for recovery before releasin' him. They said they've received quite alota calls on this species these days because they're migratory birds and they've a season for their migration and its around this time of the year. He's not a baby Mom thought him to be... he's a sub-adult already... a teenager. Mom learned that they're also known as the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher due to their size.

So there goes my lil' bird... I'm glad Mom managed to snap some pix of him upclose and personal. But I don't like to look at pix, I like to look at the REAL thing.

Mommy Kitty Eatin' Raw Chicken

Mom fed Mommy Kitty with raw meats today and was very surprised that she took to raw foods so well instantly! Mom fed her commercial wet cat food yesterday but decided to try switch her to raw foods today as her poo seriously stank to the max.

She not only ate immediately but also ate the meats of two whole drumsticks! So far all the stray dogs/cats (eg Gigi the JRT, our once-a-stray Chewy) that Mom brought home have taken to raw foods so well. Maybe it's thanks to our good (raw) energy and vibes that we send out to them heh. True carnivores do not need any crash-course on how-to-eat-raw-meats-and-bones. All they need is the right energy vibes and the knowledge by their humans. If you feel grossed out or ''feel'' that they won't like their raw meats then of course you're bound to expect hesitation on their part! Just like if you're a mother and you're afraid to enter a certain place because you ''sense'' danger, would you child sense it too via your body language and energy and feel vulnerable? If you feel happy and safe to enter the place, likewise your child would too. It is the EXACT same analogy for our animals. Energy is just so, so important.

Mommy Kitty ate her 1st serving of one whole raw chicken drumstick meats without hesitant so Mom gave her another serving. She whacked them up again! She's quite skinny now so she'll need more than the usual amount of food.

This only proves one thing. You can never remove the instinct and needs of a natural raw diet in dogs/cats. Dogs and cats have only been domesticated for about 15,000 years (for dogs) and about 9,500 years for cats. Sharks have been in existence for millions of years and have their biological anatomy changed one bit? No. So what makes people actually think that the biological anatomies of dogs/cats have evolved to eatin' and digestin' grains and starches in only 15,000 years??

This is one quote that Mom saw and found it so, so true. Note the words in bold.

It's the exact instant for humans. We were never designed to consume (cooked) meats at all because of our teeth and biological anatomy, not to mention cooked foods become carcinogenic which is why diseases like cancer and organ failures are so common amongst us when really, the human body should never ever suffer from such diseases. Raw meats for humans, yes, but ONLY from organic sources... and eaten without any marinatin' for taste... these people are known as Raw-Foodists. Natural carnivores like dogs/cats will never suffer from clogged arteries from eatin' meats and fats unlike humans. Why? Cuz Mom believes cholesterol has been called ''the animals' revenge'' because the animals you eat leave a little bit of themselves behind in your arteries everytime you eat them and they will kill you from their graves. Humans in modern day now do not even need an ounce of meat to survive because we no longer hunt for our foods which would require a huge amt of energy nor do we run from home to work and vice-versa (we drive basically). So unless you're a traditional eskimo living in an igloo with minus zero degrees celcius with only wild fishes swimmin' in the waters available for you to hunt for survival, you really do not need any meats or dairy products to clog up your arteries.

Well...... apparently Mom brought home two kittes today. Mommy kitty + her (black) baby kitty. Mom's tryin' to get Mommy Kitty spayed but black kitty's too young to be spayed now... at probably 2 months+ young? Oh and Mommy Kitty is VERY small for a mommy!

So if you love black cats, you may wish to adopt her or foster her for a few months till she's ready to be spayed too. Otherwise, Mom will have to release them both together after Mommy Kitty's spay. They're still very close to one another. If you've the space and heart for two cats, do consider them as Mommy Kitty's very gd and friendly with humans... baby's still very scared but will be okay in time to come.

2011's Heartworm Test + Comprehensive Bloodwork

Mom and Dad brought us three for our annual heartworm test + comprehensive bloodwork today. Chewy didn't tag along cuz she's still really young and doesn't need any tests at all. Not that we're old or anythin'! But dogs as a species tend to have more problems than kitty cats. So we've been going annually since 2008.

We didn't post up 2008's results cuz it was done via a human laboratory and it took a week just to get the results when it's usually done within 15 mins at the vet's clinic itself! The results were of cuz all way OFF the scale because dogs and humans' values are simply different. This is our 2009's results. I think we forgot to post our 2010's results. In anyways, I'll put it up again here!

Here's some pix and vid of us taken with Mom's crappy iphone while waitin' for our results. 15 mins for each which tallies to 45 mins for all 3 of us.

Okays so here's the results. Heartworm test - cleared. Some of the values in the bloodwork like ALP are a lil' off but nothin' to worry about accordin' to Dr. Hsu because sometimes when we're very nervous/scared durin' the drawin' of blood (which we all really were!! I was clingin' unto Mommy for dear life), the value of ALP wil be a lil' off. The other values were off by only a slight bit and are on the lower side and Dr. Hsu says being slightly on the low side is much better than being on the high side (as that would spell trouble) and so there's nothin' to worry about at all. Other than that, our sodium level is a lil' on the low side too.

Glucose is the end product of carbohydrate metabolism and is the primary source of energy for the body. High levels indicate stress, Cushing's disease, diabetes, pancreatitis or can be due to certain medications. Low levels can indicate liver disease, insulin overdose, severe bacterial infection, hypothyroidism and Addison's disease. Toy breed puppies are prone to low blood glucose for unknown reasons.

And so that's it! Our once-a-year ordeal with the vet is finally over! And Mom's glad we're all good and well (at the cost of S$473.55 for the three of us). The bill at this vet's also much cheaper than last year's. It's usually S$150 per dog for comprehensive bloodwork but it's only S$93.65 each here.

A Groom Before A Vet!

It's time for us to be groomed again after a really loooong while. Another reason for us to be groomed now is because we're off to the vet's tomorrow for our annual bloodwork and heartworm test. All paws & fingers crossed!

Cotton's last full-groom session should be 21st March if Mom remembered correctly. Or maybe she had another one later on... *shrugs* *thinks hard* Ok, I remember Mom trimmin' only her face in mid July [when we went to the railway station] because she was so lazy to trim her entire body. So yea... Wow! Cotton has got only two full-groom sessions in a entire year!

Mom always has to spend the most time and effort on Cotton because she's such a furball... so she was groomed yesterday while Lauryn and I were both groomed today.

We received our customized oil painting cushion covers & tote bag of us on the night of 28092011 with the help of Dad's friend! That was the reason why Mom had been snappin' so many pix of Chewy recently - to choose a nice pix of Chewy for the oil painting!

Dad went on a diving course in Bali last month & chanced upon an artist's shop there. So then they emailed her our pix... luckily Dad's friend happened to be makin' another trip down to Bali & hence, collected all the orders for us & other friends'.

Four cushion covers (40cm by 40cm) of us individually + a tote bag of our family pix. We all love it! And special thanks to the artist in Bali for her wonderful work. =D

Cat Adoption Drive at Chong Pang CC

Mom & Dad brought Chewy to Chong Pang Community Centre on 18092011. There was a Cat Championship show held there... but apparently their sole purpose of going there was to visit Cat Welfare Society (CWS) & LiFeline's booth to purchase some of their cute stuff.

Of course... we weren't allowed to tag alone because we (D-O-G-S) spell C-H-A-O-S for the cats there (even though we live with one). So Chewy went along without us =[

There were about five pretty young cats and kittens for adoption there... a very pretty 1 year young female (reddish colored medium length coat) )Ragdoll X named Cara caught Dad's eyes but they forgot to snap a pix of her.

A 5 months young local tortoiseshell kitten named Zara caught Mom's eyes. And luckily Mom remembered to snap a few pix of her using her lousy iPhone's cam... the pix do no justice at all to the pretty young one...

About Feeding Fresh Fruits

Mom feeds us with our organic raw pureed plant (seeds, fruits, veg) based foods a couple of hours before our organic raw meants/bones/organs/egg meal everyday. Why? This is a good site as to the reason why... (but we've been fed veg with fruits for years now though... and seen fine with it)

Regarding this, Mom will blog more about the dangers of feeding fish oil capsules very soon. If you really really believe in feeding fish oils, please only do so in the form of RAW fishes. BUT, also do take into consideration the level of mercury present in today's fishes. For us, Mom would rather feed us organic plant-based oils (in the form of hydrated Organic Chia Seeds) containing both omega 3 & 6 (100% FREE of mercury) rather than raw fishes which contain high mercury levels... & mercury poisoning is no joke when you're talkin about us small dogs (a fraction of an adult human's weight eating fishes OR fish oil capsules their whole life. We will blog more about this later on. Meanwhile, here is a short para taken off the site:

''EFA's help bring oxygen to the body, increase the metabolic rate, strengthen the vital energy of the body, protect nerves and play a crucial role in healing and preventing of disease.

Here is a list of mercury level in fishes which pregnant women are adviced to AVOID, much less us dogs! Remember, we (small dogs) are only a fraction of your weight... so what would harm humans would definitely have an effect of AT LEAST 10 times MORE on us!

Info abt fruits taken off the website:

Fruits should be fed at least 30 minutes before and at least 2 hours after the feeding of a main meal.

You do not want to feed fruits with meats or vegetables because fruits use different digestive enzymes. Therefore, combining fruits with other foods creates bad digestion. Bad digestion essentially means that the food is not digested and since fruits are high in sugar, the undigested fruit then begins to putrefy leading to the growth of bad bacteria and other related health problems.

Fruit is, for the most part, digested rather quick and so feeding fruit at least 30 minutes before a main meal allows the fruit to be digested enough to not cause any problems. Although I prefer to feed fruits at least 60 minutes before a main meal is fed.

Feeding fruits at least 2 hours after a main meal is fed helps ensure the main meal is digested enough to ensure the fruit doesn't cause any problems.

Fruit is high in sugar. Bananas are exceptionally high in sugar.

When feeding fruit to our pets we must not feed them as if they are human. It is better to feed fruit in small amounts according to their size. For example, a small Chihuahua will be eating too much fruit if you feed it a whole banana. Conversely, a big Rottweiler will laugh if you feed it a small piece of banana.

A Chihuahua should eat maybe only 5 - 10% of the human amount whereas a Rottweiler, due to its size could eat a whole banana or piece of fruit.

So when feeding fruit, feed it responsibly and it proportions that match the size of your pet.

Fruits have many wonderful benefits but these benefits must be balanced by an awareness that excess sugar, regardless of its form, is not good. Fruits contain fruit sugar but it's a still a sugar even though it is naturally occurring and in its natural, whole state.

Some will even tell you that our pets should never have any fruit at all. But myself, having watched dogs (not so much cats) naturally eat strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, fallen apples, etc, I am not as strict about the feeding of fruit. Essentially, some will say that our pets are carnivores and as a result, they are meant to have a high protein and low carbohydrates / low sugar diet. Some will say the carbohydrates should totally be non–existent. While these people raise valid points, I still personally feed fruit but not every day, not even every second day — but maybe once a week or so and when I do feed fruits, I feed in small amounts.

Apple:

This ancient fruit is said to help calm the digestive system. Apple is said also to have the ability to help the body absorb calcium and iron from other foods. A tea made by steeping apple peels is said to be excellent for the kidneys. If your dog doesn't like apples then try feeding it with the peel removed. Some dogs won't eat apples unless the peel is removed.

Melons:

Melons are an excellent source of naturally purified water. This in turn is said to help the kidneys and elimination.

Papaya:

A good source of vitamins A, C, and E; calcium, phosphorus, and iron. Papaya is said to be a good source of digestive properties to soothe the stomach. While dehydrated papaya is popular among dogs, it is ultimately high in sugar. In fact, any dehydrated fruit is very high in sugar and so only feed a small amount and better yet, none at all. If you are feeding fresh papaya, don't feed too much as it is a natural bowel cleanser.

Our Organic Puree Fruits

Mom has decided to puree our organic fruits (apples/papaya/watermelon) now... since they're more expensive than the non-organic ones... she reckons its better to puree them so that we'll be able to absorb them better. It's said that (puree) fruits are more absorbable compared to (pureed) veg.

Mom has also found another brand of organic papaya which is much cheaper than the one she usually gets which are imported from Australia. The brand she's currently gettin' is ZenXin which is from our neighbouring country Malaysia. This helps to lessen our eco-footprint on the environment (since its nearer to us in Singapore) & also ensure freshness as compared to purchasin' those from further countries. Of course, if they're freshly grown in Singapore, by all means support our local organic farmers!

So our 1st meal is organic blended veg + organic blended fruits + organic hydrated chia seeds + truganic superfood. All plant/fruit-based foods together in one meal... followed by our organic raw meats/bones/organs/eggs/supp abt a couple of hours later.

Mom has changed Chewy's cat-toilet for some time now. It used to be a typical (blue) portable dog crate. But Mom's friend gave one really cute cat-toilet to Chewy & hence, Mom decided to use that since it has a ''door'' that prevents the soiled cat-litter (that turns into sand) from being kicked out onto the floor.

Cats are really quick learners. Chewy learned to go in & out of her toilet in less than 5 minutes! Mom knows some ppl like teaching their cats to use the humans' toilet, some even teaching the cats how to flush (but it's not good as some have commented that their water-bill will increase since the cat loves lookin' at the toilet being flushed over and over again). But Mom just thinks it's pretty un-natural for them & deprives them of their natural instinct to ''dig'' after they're done with their pee/poo.

Chewy is one cat whom loves her greens just like us (& our humans)! She'll have a tinge of organic blended greens in her daily meals as well as organic vegan superfoods. The Love of Cotton

How Cotton reacts to people (or rather, strangers) that she LOVES...

[01082011] Still with Uncle James & the ''reds family'' (Lucky the Red Golden Retriever & Coco the Red Toy Poodle). Cotton LOVESSSSS their Mom since the first time she met her!

[01082011] We will bump into the ''reds family'' almost daily during our 5km jog/walk session & this is what happens all the time...

Cotton's not a dog whom loves every stranger on the streets. She chooses who to love and who not to. Once she loves you, she literally LOVES you to death & of cuz once she dislikes you, she dislikes u for life (& for some other reasons too which Mom belives).

As for dogs, she usually clicks with those of the same energy level as her (eg Coco the Red Toy Poode in the above vid) or with those super calm & matured ones (eg Lucky the Red Golden Retriever in the above vid) whom are not afraid of her or dislike her. On first meetings, she'd DEMAND for plays & sniffs by barking her lungs away (of which other humans may misunderstand & think of her as aggressive). Once the other dog lets her sniff/play with her, all would be well. There's only a few dogs so far that she can never take a liking to despite the number of times they see each other (which Mom reckons it's due to the other dogs' humans' energy... they just don't seem to like Cotton... & Cotton sure knows that!).

Even when it comes to people Mom and Dad knows... ppl that they consider as ''friends''. Cotton just seems to be able to tell who are the ''good'' ones and the well......... ''not so good'' ones. She's ok with most of Mom & Dad's friends... (note the word MOST here) but there's a few whom she will NEVER like & you bet she'll show it to everyone's face. Coincidentally, those people are no longer a part of Mom & Dad's lives (which is good!) due to certain issues. It really seems Cotton knows things way beyond our humans will ever know of others.

As for me... I'm neutral with everyone (partially because Cotton's already there to do her job of ''scanning'' our humans' friends) & that's why I'm always the good, kind, matured, and steadfast girl in everyone's eyes when they get to know me well enough. Because usually on first glance, ppl tend to think of me as the FIERCE one just because I'm dark in color with cropped ears and my brows just make my overall look really fierce. Whereas Cotton's the white (& brown haha) energized fluffy bouncy lil' thing whom makes everyone go ''awww soooo cuteeee''...... don't judge a book by its cover! =P

But we all love Cotton for both who and what she is no matter how others may view her. We're all special in each of our own unique ways in Mom & Dad's eyes.

Mom & Dad brought us all four to the railway track this morning. We reached there at around 0700 hours & there was already a huge crowd there! Trains have since ceased operation on 010711& the tracks here are gonna be fenced up on Sunday & hence, lotsa ppl have been flooding in with their friends and families... even organizing walks (the entire railway walk is 9 hours) there & photo-taking as well... these will all be memories... memories of our Green Corridoor.... sigh...

Lemme let you have a glimpse of how beautiful the place is. Mom & Dad had wanted to bring us there a long long time ago... but just hadn't got down to it till now... it's really a pity the authorities can't see it as a need to keep this beautiful natural heritage of ours.

We spent 2 hours odd there as it's really difficult to snap us all four together since we weren't really cooperating much with Mom. Not to mention there was so many people and groups after groups of ppl simply came flooding in non-stop. We actually waited for the crowd to be lesser at certain points. School excursions were even organized & teenagers were chasing us along the tracks trying to snap a pix of us... especially Lauryn! Because they all thought she was so cute & small... they prolly thought she's a pup hehe. One of them walking behind Mom even mentioned, ''why is this stupid dog (she meant Lauryn) walking so fast! I can snap a pix of it! Can't it slow down for me??'' A few of them even patted me because I'm the super confident and friendly bitch amongst the lot heh.

Not to mention most of the adults there were amused with Chewy! Lotsa them asked is she a cat... do they get along... so cute... etc. Most of them even stopped & took a pix of her or random pix of us.

How Our Organic Raw Meats Are Packed

We'll share how our organic raw meats/bones are packed in this post. Mom first debones our organic whole chicken while watching TV... cuz it takes about an hour to debone + weigh the meats + cut up the bones & pack them into individual packets. The bones will be divided as equally as possible into each packet. As much as Mom hates using plastic bags... but there's really not much of a choice in this case. Hence, Mom purchases the smallest & thinnest bags... since they're gonna be a one-time use anyways.

Organic whole chicken is present in our everyday diet alongside with another organic meat, which would be rotated amongst (various parts of) organic beef, organic lamb, & organic pork. Once every few months, Mom will replace organic whole chicken with a natural whole rabbit.

Of course, these meats will be packed on other days into the organic chicken packs. So all in all, it's alota work... not to mention extremely tiring for Mom's hands & back as she sits on the floor & pack them... but Mom thinks that it's all worth it for our health in the long run.

The Difference Between a FAST & STARVATION

Many people have misconceptions about the word ''fast'' or ''fasting''. Some have even gone to the extent of abusing these two words by havin' them confused with the word ''starvation''.
Fasting for both humans and animals have been around since, well... the world began. Animals fast for health reasons (eg detox). Animals have the knowledge to do it when it comes to their health. Great people have fasted... like Jesus Christ, Mohandas Ghandi, and in almost EVERY religion will you encounter the act of fasting. Whether it's a water-fast or a juice-fast, it is for different reasons.

Fasting is NOT suppose to cause any distress to both humans or animals. Fasting is instead, a very calm & cleansing process... a process where the body will begin to detox. Some ppl may think that since their animals are already on a raw-diet, there's no need to fast since there's no ''chemicals'' in their foods. Chemicals ARE in the foods IF they're not organic. The air we breathe everyday is polluted. These two simple reasons are reason enough for everyone to fast either once a week or to every individual's preference.

Even raw-foodists (humans eatin' ONLY Raw foods... we're raw vegans [on a plant & fruits based] diet) should go on a fast to detox our tissues & basically, our entire body as a whole.

These days, humans have been abusing the word ''fast''. Why? Because they STARVE their dogs in order for them to eat whatever that the humans want them to eat (eg the transition from a kibble brand to another kibble brand). The intention has to be correct first. If the dog/cat choose not to eat their foods (note that the animals DO NOT give two hoots about the brand. all they want and need to know is the NATURE of their foods), it's inevident that they KNOW that that food's not right for them. Dogs & cats on quality (organic) RAW foods will NEVER reject their foods (unless somethin' is wrong with their health).

So, understand the difference between a calming & beneficial fast and starvation before more harm/stress is induced unto the animals. It is good for our animals to go on a 24 hours fast probably once every week or fortnight to cleanse their bodies of any unwanted toxins from both their foods & environment. Always ensure clean water is accessible to them at all times.

Another reason to fast our animals would be when they're under the weather. Would you eat a heavy meal if you're not well? No, likewise for our animals. Not even porridge (which many vets would suggest) or broth. Porridge & broths are not even natural foods for them in the wild! Carbo is extremely difficult for carnivores to digest, much less consume them when they're sick. As for broth, well, let's just go back to nature & realize that God didn't create animals with the ability to cook their foods. They don't hunt their prey, skin them, cut them into parts, remove ''unedible'' parts, flavor them with seasonings & herbs, and boil/steam/fry/broil them.

When animals fast in the wild, all they get is water! Or maybe some simple grazing for wild cats. Porridge is only applicable in the human (cooked food) world.

So yea, I just want to help clear the air for those whom are confused with the words ''fasting'' and ''starvation''. And as well as those whom think that fasting our animals is cruel. If you do wish to fast your animals once per week or fortnight, what I'd recommend is to feed them 7 days worth of food within 6 days (if you wish to fast them once a week).

10km jog/walk today

Dad had his usual training session (21km) with his buddy today. So Mom decided to walk & jog us 10km today (instead of our usual 5km) since we've to wait for them anyways. Chewy kitty didn't tag along as she can only take 5km, after which she'd practically just be part of the ground... literally... if you know what I mean.

Boy was I tired... Lauryn too! We're so proud of her as she'll be turnin' 10 this Oct & she's still goin' strong! Cotton on the other hand............. well......... let's just label her as an energizer bunny. I overheard Mom sayin' to her friend that Cotton should be able to make it as an ultra-marathoner (100km) without any probs... and her friend actually AGREED! -___-

After we were done, we waited in the car for Dad & his buddy for abt nearly an hour. No worries, Mom was in the car with us with the doors opened wide.

Some dogs that Mom know of don't even get to step outta their homes... most don't even cover 1km of walks in a week... that is just sad. People should understand and see us as dogs - social creatures with the desire to be active and free... and not some commodity to be put at home. It's not only bad for us physically, but mentally too. So if you're readin' this and you haven't brought your dog out for a walk/run/swim, please consider doing it right now... you'll be killin 2 birds with 1 stone by keepin both you & your dog fit and healthy =]

As Free As The Wind, You Will Be...

Windy has passed away on 010711 at around 1630hrs on the surgery table. They did not perform a blood transfusion for her, which was vital before surgery as her RBC was only at 1.96. Anyways, she has passed away... no point second-guessing anythin now.

The AC from Canada spoke to Windy & has been sending healing energy to her from across the globe. Windy told her that she told me her name =] Altho I didn't attempt to speak to her, but when I was asked for her name by the 2nd vet, the only word that came to my mind was ''Windy''. And hence, I said ''Windy''. Personally for me, I thought it as her wanting to WIN the fight... and yet be as free as the wind like she always was. But now... she is truly, free... free of pain, free like the wind as she had always been and will be.

You will be missed whenever we pass the place where you'll stay & wait for our car every morning... but till then... run free, and we'll see you on the other side again.

The Curious Case of ''Windy''

This will be a post by Mom to update all her friends (& others who wishes to know the story of ''Windy'', the mongrel bitch that lost her right foreleg) as all of them has been askin' her & she has to repeat the whole story non-stop =p which is very tiring for her. So she thought... she'd just type it out somewhere so everyone can read it. Oh she brought me and Cotton along. So we're the only other witnesses (apart from Mom's friend whom came along) LOL. (cuz she's afraid we'd bark at home at 430am... yea that's the time Mom left to fetch her friend).

There's really been alot of assumptions about this case & some ppl have even ''scolded'' Mom through some private messages & stuff. We'd really really appreciated it if ppl would bother to know the ENTIRE story first before commenting ANYTHING at all, much less scold or try to teach us anything. Mom is always being misunderstood by many & she's really sick of it.

I'll let Mom continue on with her story...

We've been feeding packs of strays in different locations for about 3 years now, almost daily. These strays are extremely street-smart & DO NOT allow any human contact at all which is how they're able to survive without being caught & culled (unlike all their naive pups). This is both good & bad. Good - they're survivors. Bad - we can't catch them if they require any medical help.

For about a month ago, this particular female bitch (let's call her Windy) walked around with a limp. A limp so normal that we thought she'd heal naturally on her own as many of them used to limp around & healed within days. Injuies like these are extremely common amongst them, there're WORST ones & they still healed on their own.

We also couldn't see her injuries properly without any natural light at all. A few weeks passed & her leg swelled as the days went by. Again, not an uncommon sight amongst them at all. Morever, we really couldn't do anythin because of their personalities. On the 28th June, she got up from a lying position for her food & that's when we saw her leg was GONE.

But on the 27th, it was still intact, just very swollen (again, couldn't see properly due to lack of light). We know many assume this case to be a wild boar trap case. But lookin' at the nature of wild boar traps & how they work, we seriously doubt it due to the fact that she had her leg still intact & lookin VERY normal initiall, just limpin around only. A wild boar trap would I guess 95% of the time severe the leg off instantly, or cause MASSIVE injury to it even if they manage to escape from the trap.

Mom sought help from a few shelters to capture her as it would require quite a few ppl to do it, not to mention the experience. But sadly, they all couldn't help us capture her except provide sedatives (of which we heard from another shelter that it doesn't work at all from ALL their attempts using it). Couldn't loan a trap cage too as time was runnin out & we couldn't get a van or lorry for the big-ass cage. So we modified our crate into a ''trap cage'' by tyin' a long string to the door, stand far behind it, when the dog enters the cage, we pull it shut TIGHT & quickly.

Reached the place at 0530 before fetching a friend along. Obviously the trap cage didn't work at all. Another method we tried there also didn't. Basically, nothing worked & she's really able to still run quite fast despite her injury. Not to mention the huge forestry area where she ran in MANY times.

It started to rain & things was made worst for us. Out of desperation, I even called another animal welfare grp for their dog-catchers to help assist us, but to no avail which is expected.

Finally, we waited in the car and she emerged time & again to test water & eat. After 3 hours, I told my bf that it was now or never... that we chase non-stop, keep throwing a towel over her head & try grab her & loop her up with our loop-leash. If she runs into the forest, that's it. So we did so under the rain.

Chased her for quite a distance, threw towels, she bared teeth (scared) etc. I guess she was really spooked this time. We chased her til she fell into a drain. That's where she was really spooked out & couldn't get out due to her injury. We then slowly manuverued the loop-leash unto her neck as the area was really hard to work with & she wasn't cooperatin at all. Finally did it & we rushed her to a 24 hours vet at 0830.

Reached there & waited. The vet gasped when she saw her in the crate. She's sufferin from gangrene so amputation is the ONLY way now & it has to me immediate. The maggots on her wound is not only externally, but also internally up her shoulders eatin up her flesh up & inside there. So amputation really needs to be quick & it has to be VERY high up before bacteria from the wound enters her bloodstream, suffer from blood poisoning & ultimately attackin her vital organs & then, she'd die.

BUT, after we did two bloodworks on her, her Red Blood Count (RBC) was SO LOW at only 1.96 (minimum to be 5.5). Amputation means she would die instantly from loss of blood during surgery. Her White Blood Count (WBC) was at a high of 64 (maximum of 16) which means her blood is very toxic. Livers and kidneys are fine, but it's really just a matter of time..........

Her heartworm test was a FAINT POSITIVE because her blood clotted on the device. Did Lyme disease test too.

She has lotsa things going on her... being anaemic & emaciated, most likely to have heartworm, intestinal worms, tick fever, she's also LICE-INFESTED, extremely low RBC, extremely high WBC...

At this point of time, we also asked our friend over the phone to quickly consult with her overseas friend, whom is a dog-rescuer cum Animal Communicator (AC) cum top breeder) for her views on that. She adviced us to put her down considerin her bloodwork as much as she wants to live. If we want to put her through surgery, we'd first have to be VERY VERY rich. It's not only about physical recovery, but mental recovery as well which all in all would take 1 to 2 years for her to have a 100% recovery. She also cannot be housed in a shelter during that period, but fostered in a home environment. When she is 100% recovered, she'd have to have an adopter.

This vet briefed us on the total cost. FIRST, she'd need blood transfusion to ups her RBC. This alone would cost S$700-$800, excluding hospitalization $200+ per day (just for blood transfusion we need four days of hospitalization). After that, amputation would require about another week (tops) of hospitalization. That is IF she can make it through the transfusion period & not reject the blood. Her bloodtype is DEA 1.1 NEGATIVE.

All in all, we need about S$5k ups at this vet. Many ppl suggested that we can make her case viral & appeal for public donations. But we've to really consider the ENTIRE case properly before makin' a decision. First, if we couldn't raise the funds, we'd have to bear it all ourselves. Secondly, we can't house her during her recuperation period. Thirdly, finding a home for her. It's all a long process.

Another option - Put her down.

So I decided to hand her over to a shelter (we had already discussed her case with the shelter yesterday). So they couldn't provide transport to transfer her over to their vet, & so we did it & collected all information about Windy from this vet & handed them all over to the other vet.

We are thankful that the first vet gave us a huge discount (even tho' it still amounted to quite a sum) for Windy's case. They even covered her Heartworm & Lyme disease tests.

This vet commented that the injury could've resulted from a simple fracture which caused the blood to clot there & subsequently, she's able to chew her hand off because it has simply, died. But through AC with me, I got that it was from a snake bite & infection set in from there slowly. Whatever the case is........... she lost her leg slowly.

The vet gave her painkillers, anti-inflammatory & antibiotics jabs & Frontline for her lice-infested body. Cleanin up her maggot wound was really useless at this point as maggots are all INSIDE her remaining hand up to her shoulders area hence, immediate amputation is the ONLY way to save her life before bacteria enters her bloodstream, suffer from blood poisoning & ultimately, attackin her vital organs & causing them to fail totally.

Their Plight

Mom & Dad feeds a few packs of stray dogs at different places almost daily. Durin' one of their usual feeds today, Mom was the first to notice a very graphic sight & I saw her gasp.

One of the pack has been limpin' since a month back. These dogs are prone to injuries & most of them will heal after a period of time... even those with REALLY horrible & HUGE sores around their body. So Mom thought this is was just another common injury...

However her right foreleg grew more & more swollen & she became thinner day by day. Again, there's nothing much our humans can do because these packs of strays are extremely smart & cautious of humans. They're NOT aggressive, but they're very street-smart & that's very important to ensure their survival out there as they can be caught & culled anytime if they're too friendly with strangers. This has happened MANY times with their young & naive pups. So overall, Mom's happy that they're not able to touch them despite feedin' them for 3 years already... at least they'd be safe out there from any humans with bad intentions.

But sadly today... this was what she saw... what has become of her (the best that Mom could snap given the amt of natural light at 6am).............

Mom knows most of you out there would be wonderin' if its due to a wild boar trap. But no...
because that would result in a clean-cut & not cause her to limp for abt a month & her leg to swell slowly. It could be that her leg has ''died''... bone tissues, nerves, muscles etc dead... & hence she chewed it off. Her leg was still intact when we saw her couple days ago. Today, her pack was not with her (they're always wandering around) & she could eat by herself on her own w/o any bullyings from them since she's deemed as the ''weakest link'' now.

Mom's hopin' to get her some help from some ppl. It's impossible for Mom & Dad to try capture her on their own given the situations, environement & condition of the dog, not to mention vet bills which would amount to thousands of dollars (should the vet declare that she need not be PTS-ed). Mom recently rescued a healthy pregnant stray Jack Russell Terrier (Gigi) & her vet bills & foods amounted to a total of SGD700+. What more about this mongrel in such a bad plight.

Mom would appreciate it if ppl could stop giving suggestions to her assif she's a noob... stuff that she herself knows & would definitely do it if it's possible & feasible. Sorry if you think we're too blunt, and with all due respect, please DO NOT ask Mom where the dog's residing... especially more so when you know you'll not be able to help at all. And if you are totally clueless about the entire situation, Mom would appreciate it if you could please keep your comments & assumption to yourself. Thank you.

Mom's not in the best of mood today after what she saw. I'll go be by her side now... let us all pray for this dog (and the thousands out there sufferin like her)...

Walkin' All Four Made Easy With Our Hands-Free Multi-Purpose Leash

Mom walked all four of us all by herself today again as Dad went for his marathon training with his friend at MacRitchie. And you must be wonderin' how Mom managed it! Mom used a multi-purpose leash for Cotton & me, leavin' one of her hands FREE as the leash is slinged across her shoulder just like a typical sling bag! Best part of all, it doesn't entangle if we decide to ''switch positions'' with one another while walkin because the hook is 360 degrees rotatable!

We'll upload that pix in here tomorrow when she asks Dad to take a pix =p So that leaves her both hands to hold Chewy & Lauryn. Simple as 1 2 3! Mom can even hold a DSLR (in the 2nd vid below) to film us while walkin' all four of us lol.

Dogs and Cat Walking

This is Chewy's 3rd session of learnin' to walkie with us. She's improved loads accordin' to Mom. Only thing is......... we had to slow down alot for her. But it's okie... anythin' to help kitty...

Local people whom see us never fail to ask us, ''won't fight?!'' ''cat and dogs won't fight?! sure or not?!'' etc. Mom would usually answer their question with another question, ''do you see them fightin'?'' They'll then have a reply to their own question when they reply, ''er.... no.''

I really wonder... do they really wanna see us fight?? Why must they see us cats & dogs in such a negative light when it comes to living together? We've lived with guinea pigs, chinchillas & even a lovebird before (all in Mom's room together with us)... so seriously... why do people always expect us to FIGHT?! And living in harmony is such a shocking thing to them. Hmm...... now you know why other dogs ''fight'' with other animals... because its their humans sendin' negative projections & energy to the dog & ''believing'' that the right thing for them to do, is to fight. We never fight amongst ourselves - all different species because Mom trusts us to live in harmony together, yea, even being left together home-alone.

So the next time... please don't be too surprised to see any animals livin' in harmony together with other species k...... because its absolutely possible given the right mentality & energy in the household. =]

Mom brought us to MacRitchie Reservoir after our usual 5km jog/run session because Daddy had a runnin' session there with a friend. This is Chewy's 2nd day of walkin' with us on leash.
Since Gigi found a found on 170611, Mom has more time to teach Chewy to walk on leash with us!
She's a pretty fast learner, just extremely wary of strangers walkin' past her & vehicles especially. She'll stop & lay low on the ground or even panic & try to run for shelter when vehicles drive past her.

Hopefully our lil' Chewy will improve in these two aspects soon =D

We've not had our full-groom for 3 months, & our baths in 2 months. And so Mom groomed us today. Cotton was given a basic-groom yesterday & I was partially groomed last night too (removal of my undercoat). Lauryn will just be bathed + trimmin of nails.

Our Organic Raw Greens, Mom & Dad turn Raw-Vegans and More about RAW-Foodism

We're gonna blog abt our organic greens today cuz Mom & Dad had decided to become Raw (Vegan) Foodists themselves. Yes... they'll no longer be eatin' any cooked foods just like us! Just that they're omitin' the organic Raw meats/bones/eggs part (so that makes Mom & Dad Raw-Vegan Foodists while we're Organic-Raw Foodists. But our humans do try to consume as much organic stuff as possible too).

Mind you that Raw Foodists eat RAW meats (& grind the bones) from organic & healthy animals. Research a lil' about Raw Foodists & you'll know more... stuff like salmonella & E.coli etc will NOT affect Raw Foodists as long as their bodies are cleansed & detoxed before embarkin' on a Raw Diet (just like us dogs & cats!). Healthy immunity & body doesn't allow any bacteria to thrive at all. Salmonella & E.coli viruses will thrive in only unhealthy bodies with weak immunity. That is why it's so rare for raw-fed dogs to die from salmonella etc.

Yups... so since Mom & Dad have decided to only eat raw vegan foods, they've decided to invest in a good blender... They decided on the Vitamix Prep 3 which they bought at a spree price of S$1016.50 (includin' GST). And of cuz...... our organic veg will be blended with this new blender from now on too! ^^

Side-track a lil' before we share more abt our (locally grown) organic greens... local forums never fail to anger Mom regardin' raw diets for dogs.

Mom: There's this commercial ''raw'' diet which is freeze-dried (note that ANY kind of process done to raw foods = PROCESSED FOOD) that's been promotin' themselves alot here in SG. The person whom I highly suspect IS the distributor in SG has always been promotin' this pdt in a particular forum... boastin' abt the ''quality'' of their meats even when they're not organic at all. Just because they're from NZ doesn't = ''as good as organic'' like he always claims them to be in that forum. That is VERY misleadin' to others, esp more so if they wish to learn more abt raw-feedin'. You see, I read A LOT of books regardin' factory-farms (aka battery-farms) etc & that is also how thru' my animals, I learnt abt Raw-Foodism as well.

Anyways, NZ also has lotsa battery-farms if you'd like to know... just google & you'll get all your answers if you're lazy to grab any books to read. Hence, this particular freeze-dried ''raw'' food company can jolly-well get their meat supplies from any of these battery-farms (which is definitely FARRR from being anywhere near organic)! Do these people even know what organic means? It means the land & soil must be organic, the animals' feeds must be organic & free of any GMO-feeds, animals allowed to grow at a natural rate w/o any antibiotics, vaccines, growth hormones etc which therefore means consumers have to pay a MUCH higher price for them because they can't produce as many animals as quickly as factory-farms do! Hence, if a farm (no matter in NZ or anywhere else) isn't certified organic, there is NO WAY they'll put in so much effort, time & money into their livestock!

(oh in case you didn't know, all cooked foods are carcinogenic, yes even a plain broiled potato has 450 toxic chemicals in them thanks to COOKIN'. that is why one shld NEVER EVER cook foods for dogs & cats at all) In the first place, the joke here is that the meats that this pdt uses are from slaughterhouses that slaughter & process meats that are ''human-grade'' (if you still don't geddit, it means the meats that this pdt uses = the meats sold in supermarkets).

This fella then goes on sayin' his dogs had loose stools when they were on raw meats from supermarkets & he URGES us to research on how the raw meats we bought for our animals are slaughtered, processed, handled etc. HELLO........ we only get organic-grade meats & their level of handlin & processin' are wayyy higher than factory-farms. Morever, even Raw-Foodists on organic raw meats thrive on them, what more about TRUE carnivores like dogs & cats?! He is SO BENT on promotin' his pdt & thinks he's a know-it-all & even calls himself a ''naturopath''. Oh please... if anyone is more deservin' of this title, it should be me. But even I daren't classify myself as a naturopath even tho' I'm a Raw (Vegan) Foodist myself. See... that is why local forums ARE A JOKE & ends up as the jokers leadin' the blind when they try to ''teach'' others abt raw-feedin'. These ppl aren't even feedin' a TRUE RAW DIET! They're either feedin' kibbles or commercial raw-diets & they DARE to ''teach'' others. Sigh.

A Raw-Diet for dogs & cats is never meant to be cheap & easy. We spend S$500+ on our dogs & cat organic Raw diet per month, not to mention the effort involved such as purchasin' them & packin' them. We've also heard of MANY dogs on this freeze-dried commercial raw diet refusin' to eat them after awhile. Our dogs & cat have been on an organic RAW diet for four years & NOT ONE DAY have they ever rejected their foods. Why? Because they KNOW it is pure goodness packed with nutrients for them. How your animals react to their food = the quality of the foods. Not to mention they've perfect skin (the skin is the largest organ in the body & much can be told abt humans/animals' health just from the skin alone) from the day they were born til now. You may think I'm lyin'... but the truth is they've NEVER had a single ''bump'' or ''rash'' on them at all... symptoms that are so common amongst so many dogs fed on kibbles/commercial raw diets. And I believe that proves for somethin' abt the diet I'm puttin' so much effort in providin' for them.

Ok enuf of my rants... am so sick of these forums shootin' me when I start to post the correct stuff in there. Alright back to our greens... Mom prefers to purchase Locally Grown Organic veg to reduce their carbon footprint & most importantly, the freshness & nutrients of the veg are higher than those imported ones due to freight time etc.

Precious nutrients are lost thru' (overseas) packin', freight time, displayed at shops, to our home, from washin' to cuttin' & lastly to blendin' & storage for consumption. Hence, Mom only lightly rinsess the veg & reduce any choppin' or cuttin' of them.

Mom: For eg I asked the salesperson on a Monday when did this imported organic veg arrive. She mentioned Friday. Which meant freight-time probably took 2 days? Packagin' time overseas probably 1 day before. Fri til Mon was already 3 days in the shop, I'd estimate the veg to be a week old from overseas to the shop in SG... worse still if I were to wash, cut & blend them & store them for another week in my place. The veg would be 2 weeks+ old! One can only imagine the nutrients left in there (even tho' the veg still looks pretty). And imagine payin' so much for imported veg but with depleted nutrients.
And MOST MOST importantly, do not waste your money & COOK these organic veg! Organic foods are much higher in nutrition compared to non-organic ones & cooking under heat & fire destroys enzymes & depletes nutrients. The best & most bio-available method to consume them (for dogs or humans alike) is to blend them in their RAW state into smoothies.

''From biology, we know that inside plant cells, tiny organelles called ''mitochondria'' break down carbohydreate and sugar molecules to provide energy. These organelles are alive and constantly at work, but only while the plant is alive, not after it is cooked. Therefore, consuming food that has life in it holds an immense benefit for humans. I have heard from many people that when they stopped eating cooked food, the very first change they noticed was a dramatic increase in their energy levels. (IT IS TRUE! We've stopped eatin' cooked foods & have become Raw-Vegan Foodists too just like our animals, but omiting raw meats/bones or any animal pdts.).

Wild animals intuitively prefer fresher, more alive foods. If given a choice, goats, rabbits, and horses will always choose green grass over hay. We can find numerous examples in nature of various creatures that sustain themselves by eating live food only. For example, a caterpillar from Maui feeds solely on live snails. Most spiders consume exclusively live flies and bugs and would never eat dead insects. If you have ever possessed a lizard as your pet, you know that lizards would rather die from hunger than eat a dead bug, even a freshly caught one. A cheetah eats only fresh meat, consuming just enough to satisfy its hunger.

Of course, there are some animals like vultures, flies, or other scavengers that eat rotten food, including dead meat. However, even those animals do not cook their food. They still get life from their meal but in a different form - as microorganisms. Their bodies have adjusted to digesting decaying food. These creatures usually have a particular or extraordinary high concentration of stomach acid capable of killing pathogenic bacteria.

Wild creatures that eat their natural foods rarely develop degenerative diseases. In contrast, it has become almost expected for domesticated animals to develop cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and other illnesses typical of humans who eat the standard American diet. A growing number of vets contend that processed pet food is the main cause of illness and premature death in the modern dog and cat. In December 1995, the British Journal of Small Animal Practice published a paper stating that processed pet food suppresses the immune system and damges the liver, kidneys, heart, and other organs. This research, initially conducted by Dr. Tom Lonsdale, was replicated by the Australian Veterinary Association, and was proven to be valid.

Dr. Gyorgy Kollath of the Karolinksa Hospital in Stockholm also headed a study of animals. When young animals were fed cooked and processed foods, they initially appeared to be healthy. However, as the animals reached adulthood, they began to age more quickly than normal and also developed chronic degenerative disease symptoms. Members of a control group of animals raised on raw foods aged less quickly and were free of degenerative disease. In nature, we see that wild animals eating entirely enzyme-rich raw foods are free of the degenerative diseases that afflict humans.
I believe the time has come to finally recognize the most important ingredient in our food - life, this invisible yet precious quality - and its significance in the realm of health.''

These are some of the other organic fruits we consume besides organic apples. Organic apples are the cheapest of all our organic fruits. The (half) 3.6kg organic yellow watermelon from Taiwan costs S$57.20 (before disc), three organic papayas S$31.60 (before disc) and one tiny organic mango S$6.55 (before disc). Total of S$90.65 for these five items. Extremely costly, but also extremely beneficial to our health in the long term.

We do have the non-organic fruits occasionally as well, but it's a MUST for our veg or meats to be of organic-grade.

We're not the only ones eatin' all these in the pix actually... we share 'em with Mom & Dad too, cuz afterall, they paid for it!

When Kitty Chew Wakes Up...

... one mornin' on 210511 (Sat) ...... Mom goes snap snap snap because she looked so cute. I'm kinda jealous now that kitty Chew's grabbin' most of Mom's attention. =[

Mom really named her well and apt... cuz one of kitty Chew's favorite antics is to lick lick lick Mom or Dad's hands/legs/feet/fingers (wherever you name it) & then CHEW on them like ''...nom nom nom...'' with saliva all over them. -__-|| all kitty kats do that???

Anyways Mom thinks Chewy's a really naive kitty... cuz she hasn't (& Mom's hopin' NEVER EVER) scratched nor bitten anyone nor any animals even when she gets really really pissed off. Dad says its because they took her in when she was around 4 months young seeing she was bullied by other adult cats so much so that she fell into a big drain & that her kitty momma hasn't yet taught how to use her CLAWS -___- But Mom thinks she's just really pretty, gentle, nice & naive by nature.

Okie enuf of kitty-tok... now its time for some kitty-see...

Mom finally managed to snap some pix of Chewy's biological Mommy (as believed by Mom as Chewy's Mom resides around the area where they found Chewy). Mom's also thinkin' of spayin' her to prevent anymore litters... I say they're afraid of seeing another Chewy-replica UNDER their car in future! (in case you hadn't already known, Chewy dashed out from under Mom's car one night during work & the story began from there.......)

Here are the pix & you go spot some of the uncanny resemblance between them... but Chewy has got a long & skinny tail while her Mommy has a short, fat & furry tail. Lucky she's friendly too... which would make it easier for us to send her for her spay..... along with the shopkeeper's permission (just wonderin' which shop she ''belongs'' to exactly)

Organic Pork & Some Clarification

Mom bought some Organic Pork for us. But before we go into that........ there's been some comments in our local forums recently by people regardin' Organic (Raw) Food for dogs. Mommy would like to clarify the points one by one here in her blog (not that there's alot to begin with). Why here? Because people LOVE fightin' wit Mommy in forums about her opinions... opinions that the average people KNOW its true, & yet refuse to admit it.

Point 1) ''Feed whatever you can afford. No need to 'sell your house, your car, your kids' to feed your dog lah. The word 'organic's is overly-used, once a produce is labelled Organic, the price will go sky-high. Even expat on expat pay is unable to put their cats, dogs on organic let alone the average working people here who just want to have a pet to love and care for.''

Mommy's view: Organic foods prices are ''sky-high'' here in Singapore because most aren't locally produced! Only certain veg are, but definitely NOT meats. Organic farmers also require higher cost & effort to rear their animals organically w/o any use of antibiotics, vaccines, GMO feeds etc. Meats were NEVER meant to be dirt-cheap, it is only through the demand for cheaper meats that unhealthy & unethical farming of livestock came into the scene & thus, your CHEAP meats, not to mention unhealthy because of their high amts of vaccines, antiobiotics etc. A farm worker got scratched lightly on his finger by a chicken while slaughtering it... what was supposed to be a simple wound on a finger which's to be healed within a week, ended up being AMPUTATED because it swelled up so much & got so infected by the high levels of antibiotics, vaccines etc in the chicken. That IS a true story, I leave it to you to decide.

My partner and I are both vegans & DO NOT eat any meats nor their by-products (dairy pdts, honey etc)... so that's why we only insist on feedin' our animals with organic foods for their health sake. & we'd rather support the organic farmers than the unethical ones. And lastly, NO, I DO NOT EARN AN EXPAT'S PAY. I simply PRIORITIZE my life & DO AWAY with unnecessary shoppings, eating out in expensive places like cafes, movies, etc. Or is this person implyin' that I'm LYING that I'm feedin' my animals Organic-grade meats/eggs/veg/herbs/supp etc? Read the above Point carefully, this member wrote that ''even expats on expat's pay are UNABLE to put their animals on organic foods, let alone the average working people...'' (oh btw, if you're interested to know more about the fugly meat-industry & the lies they've been tellin' you since you were born, please feel free to grab the following books: THE FOOD REVOLUTION by John Robbins, EATING ANIMALS by Jonathan Safran Foer)

Point 2) ''An owner of an organic shop here has lost confidence in organic produce as over the years he has been selling and delivering his organic produce to cancer patients looking for a miracle cure only to find that organic does not guarantee a healthy body and at the end of the day, the cancer patient still has to die. He got fed-up and sold his business.''

Mommy's view: Organic food are NEVER a sure-cure for cancer patients. In fact, if they continue to consume factory-farmed meats, how can they expect to be cured via organic veg?? It's akin to sayin' you've lung cancer, & you switch to organic cigarettes (made of organic nicotine??) Does that even make any sense to you? People ought to know WHAT'S the cause of cancer in the first place before assuming organic veg/supps are the CURE to cancer. -___________-

Point 3) If your dog is of poor genes, even if you put your dog on super-organic food, he will still have problems with his health brought on by his poor genes. An aunty of mine, fed her chihuahuas with only cooked chicken and rice for 14 years and yet her dogs are still living today because the dogs are home-bred and have good genes. My retiree friend who has an 8 yrs old pomeranian bought from a farm in Australia, fed her dog with kibbles, table scraps, durians and yet her dog is in the pink of health, never seen a vet, no skin issues or digestive problems, this really puzzles me and it led me to believe it is because the dog has good genes.

Mommy's view: Let's just say that some people whom smoked ALL their life for over 60 years hadn't contracting lung cancer or any diseases resultin' from smokin'. Does that make it RIGHT & OK to smoke?? I've known of some superb show dogs havin' died at VERY young ages of below 5. Their genes are supposedly good?? But yet they die at such young ages? I shall not go into the showing scene here, but you get the idea. Why succumb the dogs to issues when you can try prevent it through the best way? If I told you that you could allow your animal to join either Group A, in which one out of every two dogs would die of cancer or organ failure, or Group B, in which cancers & organ failures would be practically unknown & the animals would be healthier in every other way as well, which group would you place your animal in? Group B, of course. You'd be nuts to choose otherwise. And yet, tragically, the vast majority of domestic animals in our society are in fact members in good standing of Group A.

That's about it for Mommy's view regardin' this member's post. Agree or not... Mommy doesn't really care... because she's read & seen ENOUGH of how your meats are produced at factory-farms to realize that its wrong for any living beings to consume them. That's why she & dad turned vegans both for the factory-farms animals' sake (where there's no demand, there's no supply AND ABUSE) & their health. And that is also why they put us ONLY on Organic meats, veg, herbs, supps etc.

THE STORY:

[PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD ON ''GIGI'S'' ADOPTION. Thank you.]

Mom picked up a PREGNANT Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) from the middle of the road on 080411. She was crossin' a busy X-junction amidst MANY cars, thankfully she got across safely when we U-turned to get her.

She's not microchipped & our guess is she's a stray (possibly abandoned long ago). & unfortunately, she's pregnant too. Highly possible that she mated with other strays (most likely Singapore Specials) out there.

This JRT will be up for adoption after she's done with her abortion & spay. She has Patellar luxation (loose kneecap) on her right hind & the excess pregnancy weight will increase the pain there. Morever, the pups MAY most likely be X with Singapore Specials (since she was a stray herself) & would be hard to rehome. We've no experience in the delivery of puppies nor do we have the time to wean them (note that should the bitch not know how to care for her pups, we'd have to syringe-feed the pups every 2 hours for a couple of months). As cruel as abortion may sound, it is for the best in her current health situation & the pups' future as there's no guarantees they'll have a good forever home IF they're X with Singapore Specials.

We need either fosterers or adopters. Can't house her for long due to family issues (parents are not happy abt it) & the fact that we've 4 animals of our own. She's about 4-5yo (estimated age), doesn't need much exericse (just normal walks will do) due to her loose kneecap, good with dogs & humans.

As we already have 3 bitches & a cat, it's quite difficult for her to remain with us. She will be temporarily housed with Esther Leong & her family after her surgery, till we find her a suitable home. However, all expenses will be beared by us solely. It's quite a huge amt to date, but we hope to just do our best for this poor girl.
